The rain came down for days.
The river flooded the entire park.
All that was summer and fun,
Went mucked under water with mud.
We watched a mobile home float,
Away with a half open blue cooler,
A dumpster, canoes, a coffee tin,
A Big Wheel, and broken styrofoam.
Yet, just days before the holiday,
The rain let-up, as did our spirits.
We shoveled up the grime and gunk,
As the children sang like cherubs.
Still, the liquor store, across the street,
outshined the communal Christmas tree.
